Begin with...

Gather all your carded color fleece, both natural and dyed. I like to fill up sandwich baggies with all my different colors and then place them in a box and keep them near me.

Gather all the tools listed on the supply list above.

When you choose your wet felt canvas, choose a color that will flatter the foreground of your design but keeping the background color of your design in mind.
For example, I used a lavender color piece for my big cat project because that is a color that flatters browns when I had to back felt for texture and compliment the shading. In addition, with my pump house project, I picked a grey wet felt piece. My reasoning for that was that grey is the base color of the mountain in the background and it also works perfect when I back felt to produce a light overlay on my mountains that are farther back so I can make the foreground mountain stand out more than the mountains in the background.

Depending on your project and your expertise, you may want to sketch out your idea first on paper, then cut out your main subjects. Place your main subject on your wet felt and draw the outline of your subject onto your felt piece. Sometimes I do this when I have a lot going on in the project to keep things in perspective.

Use your three needle Clover needlefelting pen and take one needle out.
With the remaining two needles in your pen take a base color and needle felt the out line of your sketched out idea. For example...where the mountain range will be, trees, water, house, eyes, etc....

Begin punching in your fleece. Keep in mind that your subject is three-dimensional and punch in your shadowed areas and lighted areas.
